A deadly Russian missile strike hit Dnipro overnight, killing one civilian and injuring another. The attack targeted a residential area, causing significant damage and highlighting the ongoing threat to Ukrainian cities far from the front lines.
One Killed, One Injured in Overnight Russian Missile Strike on Dnipro

Russian Overnight Attack on Dnipro Leaves One Dead, Another Injured
Dnipro, Ukraine – July 26, 2025 — One person has been killed and another injured following a Russian missile attack on the city of Dnipro during the night, according to local authorities. The strike targeted civilian infrastructure and residential areas, marking yet another deadly assault on Ukraine's urban centers.
The attack occurred shortly after midnight when air raid sirens sounded across Dnipro. Moments later, loud explosions were heard as Russian missiles struck multiple locations in the city. One of the missiles hit a residential neighborhood, resulting in the death of a 38-year-old man and injuries to a nearby resident.
Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov confirmed the casualties in a statement on Friday morning. “A cruel and deliberate strike on our city has taken the life of one of our residents. Another victim is receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the blast. This is another example of Russia’s war crimes targeting peaceful civilians.”
Emergency services and rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the impacted areas. Footage from the scene shows damaged apartment buildings, shattered windows, and debris scattered across the streets. Firefighters worked through the night to extinguish a blaze that broke out following the explosion.
Dnipro, one of the largest cities in central Ukraine, has increasingly become a target of long-range missile and drone attacks despite being far from the active front lines. Officials say Russia has been attempting to disrupt civilian life and infrastructure across Ukraine as part of its broader strategy of psychological warfare.
"This strike was not on a military site. It hit a residential sector — ordinary people trying to sleep in their homes," said Serhiy Lysak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration. “Russia is once again showing its complete disregard for human life and international law.”
The injured individual, a woman in her early 40s, is reportedly in stable condition after undergoing surgery at a local hospital. Authorities have not yet released her name but confirmed she lived in a neighboring building to the site of the impact.
Air defense systems in the region were reportedly activated during the attack and successfully intercepted several other missiles aimed at the city. However, at least one missile evaded interception and caused the fatal damage.
Ukraine’s Air Force Command has reiterated its urgent call for additional air defense systems from international allies, stating that the country continues to face daily threats from missiles, drones, and other aerial weapons.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the incident with a statement on social media: “Russia continues its terrorist tactics by attacking peaceful cities overnight. We mourn the victim and will do everything to bring justice. Ukraine will not be broken.”
Local officials have urged residents to remain cautious and to seek shelter during air raid alerts. Emergency crews are continuing their cleanup efforts, while damage assessments and investigations into the type of missile used are ongoing.
The attack on Dnipro adds to the growing list of Russian strikes on civilian areas in recent weeks, a grim reminder of the ongoing dangers faced by millions of Ukrainians across the country.
