Than 50 Rockets Fired from Lebanon into Northern Israel, IDF
Reports
In a significant escalation of hostilities, over 50
rockets were launched from Lebanon into northern Israel overnight,
according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The rockets targeted
the Galilee Panhandle and the Kiryat Shmona area, with attacks
occurring in multiple waves.
The initial barrage, which took
place between 1 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., involved around 20 rockets. The
IDF reported that most of these projectiles were intercepted by
Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system, although some rockets did
manage to hit Kiryat Shmona, causing damage to the area. Fortunately,
there were no reported injuries from this wave of attacks.
Later,
at approximately 5:30 a.m., a second wave of about 30 rockets was
launched from Lebanon. The IDF confirmed that some of these rockets
were intercepted, while the remainder fell into open areas,
minimizing potential casualties.
In response to the rocket
fire, Israeli fighter jets carried out strikes on several buildings
used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Targets included locations in
Aitaroun, Maroun al-Ras, and Yaroun. The airstrikes are reported to
have targeted facilities associated with Hezbollah’s military
infrastructure.
Additionally, a separate drone strike on
Saturday night resulted in the deaths of two members of the
Hezbollah-allied Amal movement. The IDF stated that these individuals
were operating out of a Hezbollah compound located in the town of
Froun.
The overnight events mark a sharp increase in
cross-border violence, with both sides engaging in retaliatory
strikes. The situation remains tense as both Israeli and Lebanese
forces continue to navigate the escalating conflict. The IDF has
indicated that it will maintain heightened security measures in
response to the recent rocket attacks.
